Meet a Turtle! Sea turtles tell us a lot about the condition of our environment and the world's oceans. They have survived more than 100 million years, and live in all the oceans. At Marathon's Turtle Hospital, injured or sick turtles are treated and released back to local waters. Visitors can meet the current patients, and some of the longer residents, and learn about conservation of this important animal. 2396

Visit Historic Pigeon Key Explore historic and picturesque Pigeon Key, a five acre island just west of Marathon that was the original Henry Flagler work camp for the Overseas Railway. Trip Advisor calls the island a “fascinating microcosm of the Florida Keys.” Pigeon Key is reached by a ferry departing from Knight’s Key, Marathon. Many of the historic buildings can be toured, including the Honeymoon Cottage, the Bridge Tender's House, and the Commissary. The educational center offers exhibits of the wildlife as well the history of the “Train Who Went To Sea” that was the first connection from the mainland to Key West. Take a picnic and your snorkel gear and spend the day. You can also still walk or ride your bike to the island on the old 7 mile brdige. It's about 2.5 miles.

"Top Ten" Beach at Bahia Honda Bahia Honda State Park is one of island chains most popular destinations – its beautiful beach has made more than one “top ten” beach list in travel magazines, the snorkeling and swimming is great and the sunsets are what you expect in the Florida Keys, with the added dramatic backdrop of the old railroad steel truss bridge – the only one of its kind in the original railroad. The depth of the channel – 24 feet – made this construction necessary. There are covered picnic tables, shore fishing, kayaks and snorkel gear for rent and boat trips to the reef. Bahia Honda is a popular birding spot - a great place to see wading and shorebirds. Mile

Snorkel the Coral Reef Our
year round warm water and the colorful coral and fish life just
beneath the surface are arguably the most amazing attractions the
Florida Keys have to offer. The barrier reef offshore is the 3rd
largest in the world and the only living barrier reef in North America.
Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on
earth, second only in ecological diversity to the tropical rain
forests – in fact, coral reefs are often called “The Rain Forests
of the Sea." MM
